Victorian or Edwardian Era Hanging Parlour Lamp Plume & Atwood Mfg. Co. Waterbury, Connecticut.
This would have been originally used for kerosene but the lamp can be converted to electric of course.
Unfortunately this piece is missing the original glass chimney and 2/30 hanging crystals on the large brass circle that holds the white glass dome. There may have been a matching brass collar for the opening where the glass chimney pokes out but this is unknown. One hanging crystal is chipped on the end.
The burner dial is marked THE P&A MFG. CO. Made in USA. It is unknown if these pieces are all related to one another. Plume & Atwood did make these hanging parlour lamps, after doing research online.
All trimmings and chains appear to be made of brass and fit together nicely but do not have the exact pattern, unknown if this was intentional or not. They do however all have the same lovely patina.
Old ladder chain wound into top chain retractor for lengthening or shortening lamp. Height currently measures approx 40” when fully unwound. Approx 16" diameter glass shade. I did find the chain retractor to be difficult to retract. Lengthening seemed to be easier. Some of the hooks are a bit bent, assuming due to its long life of being put up and taking down.
The brass is slightly dinged and in some spots sightly bent (see photos). The brass is pliable, I just did not want to damage the piece by trying to adjust the shapes to perfect circles again.
No chips or cracks in white glass dome.
Retractor has a large brass loop at the top for easy hanging once assembled.
Wear from age and use as to be expected for this much older piece but overall in good antique condition! Please see photos for more accurate description and condition.
Please note:
The items I sell are vintage/antique and have been previously owned/used. They may show signs of wear and have slight imperfections due to age and previous use.
Any noticeable flaws will be descripted and photographed. Please reach out with any questions or if you would like more photos. Please take into consideration this piece is over 100 years old and these types of minor flaws and imperfections are usually present. I do my very best to be as transparent as possible with any issues/flaws.
